3 Summer illnesses in children, Prevention is better than cure!
As Summer arrives along with the school holidays, children have more free time. Many parents often look for opportunities to engage in activities with their beloved kids, such as swimming, or outdoor activities. However, scorching heat and fluctuating temperatures throughout the day. Dust and germs in the air can make children more susceptible to illness, especially those illnesses that spread during the summer.
3 Summer Illnesses in Children
1. Influenza is a respiratory illness caused by a virus. It can occur year-round and affect all ages, but children under the age of 5 are at higher risk complications. Symptoms include chills, headaches, body aches, eyestrain, high fever (around 39-40°C), cough with mucus, and often no snot discharge. In severe cases, pneumonia may develop as a complication.
2. Summer Flu occurs when a child contracts the flu virus while exposed to extreme heat or sudden temperature changes, which the body cannot adjust quickly. High-risk groups include children under 5, the elderly, and teenagers who engage in outdoor activities. Symptoms include high fever, fatigue, headaches, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, body aches, and sometimes red eyes.
3. Heat Stroke occurs when the body becomes overheated, with body temperatures exceeding 40°C, and cannot release heat efficiently due to excessive sweating. Symptoms include rapid pulse, headache, nausea, vomiting, red rashes, confusion, restlessness, delirium, and in some cases, seizures or loss of consciousness.
The Summer break provides children with the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities,
but it also brings health risks in this season. To ensure children stay safe while having fun, parents should focus on health care, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat. Preventing illness early is always better than treating it after the fact, and boosting immunity is crucial.
